Project Oakdale is nothing but PowerApps in Teams. Now when i say this a lot of people will think whats new? because we were having PowerApps in Teams before.

So, what Microsoft has done this time is this that they have provided PowerApps Studio in the Teams and access to free and limited CDS aka data source.

Before when we were creating Apps in Teams we had to rely on data source such as Sharepoint (because of seeded license in Office365). Microsoft realizing that provided a free and limited version of CDS in teams.

How to get Started:

To start open your teams and install the newly available PowerApps. You will get two options

  • Add to Team
  • Add to Chat

So i will go ahead and now add this to my Demo Team. Once i do that it will take some time and load a designer in my designated team. I will go to the build Tab and start making the app.

Be patient as it might take some time

once its loaded you will see that its almost the same stuido which we are familiar with

Getting started with Project Oakdale

the first thing i will do is create a table for my sample app. The app i want to create is for storing leaves request. a simple app.

so i will create a table

Getting started with Project Oakdale

you will see that the table comes with a default column of type text

I will modify it and add my required column. So to edit it click on the arrow and edit. You can only edit the Name of the column but you can’t edit the column data type.

I will add rest of my columns such as start date and end date and auto increment number. You can see that its quite easy to add a auto increment column with lot of flexibility with prefixes, start value etc

so this is how my table looks like now.

once done i will close the table editor and i will see that this new tables appear in my data source area of power apps studio. You will also see that power apps studio has generated a default look for it to insert the data.

Now you click publish the app in Teams channel and modify the other settings such as Icon, Color and Name.

And viola! your app is ready to be used with a data source.
